A Tribute to Captain George Miller

The following was written by George’s son, Tony.

Many of you knew George J. Miller simply as “Captain” or Captain George. For me, his son, he was always just “Dad” and he was my best friend. He actually was a friend to so many and even a mentor to some. He was a guy that people really admired, enjoying his company and fun conversations.

George had a passion for being on the water. He would spend as much time as he could on the ocean, including his time with the US Navy and the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 25+ years, and as a member of yacht clubs.

In 2007, George and his wife Diane purchased their first big boat, “Finally Us,” together. At the time, he was working for Fortune 500 companies in the corporate world. Then one day, he and Diane did their first burial at sea for a close friend. After that experience, he was hooked and turned his passion for being on the water and helping people into “Beyond the Sea Memorial Services.” That’s when he began knocking on doors and building relationships with everyone in the field. The company then evolved when he acquired a larger yacht named, “Something Special.”

At the end of 2021, George was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. At the time, he was ready to start the next chapter of his life - retirement. George and Diane began traveling anywhere and everywhere they could - from cruises to camping - and spent time with friends and family. He was such a happy and positive person and his motto fittingly was: “live every day to the fullest,” and he did!

In April of 2022, George passed the torch on to me, Captain Tony. I am honored to continue his legacy as the second generation to run Beyond the Sea Memorial Services.

As George always said, “To Love, Health and Happiness.”
